The Paul Byrd Band
Upcoming local shows
The Paul Byrd Band began back in the 1960s when drummer Michael J. Dohoney and bass player Mike Stockton first met while both were playing at the infamous Cellar. They continued playing together off and on throughout the 1970s with such notables as Delbert McClinton and Glen Clark until Stockton left McClinton's band to join the Allman Brothers Band with which he played for two years. The duo then teamed up again and toured extensively with the band Pump.
Stockton next headed to New Orleans with Doyle Bramhall. They played in the house band at a Bourbon Street bar, and over the next eight years he played with CBS recording artist Mason Ruffner and everyone from Fats Domino to Jimmy Page. Stockton then returned to Fort Worth and formed his own band, The Rhythmators, which he led for the next 10 years to critical acclaim. During that time, Dohoney had moved to Los Angeles where he spent 20 years doing live performances with the best the west coast had to offer, including Cornell Dupree and Roy Buchanon, and acted in movies including The Wedding Singer starring Adam Sandler.
After The Rhythmators split up, Stockton met Paul Byrd and the two started talking about collaborating on a new project. Byrd had run his own band for the last ten years, basing himself out of Anchorage, Austin, Dallas, and finally Fort Worth, where he met Stockton. During this time, Byrd had opened shows for ZZ TOP, Jeff Healey and The Fabulous Thunderbirds, as well as establishing himself on tours in Europe. By this time Dohoney had moved back to Fort Worth, and he jumped on board bringing his vocal talent and drumming skills.
The three then found Gentleman John Street who, originally from South Carolina, had played on Broadway as a teenager, around the world with the Gregg Allman Band in the late 1980s, and in Florida where he led his own band, The Telephone Kings. During this time Anson Funderburgh had recruited Street to join his multiple Handy Award-winning band, The Rockets, with which he had played for the last eight years. The four then collaborated their talent and experience to form The Paul Byrd Band to bring their original, eclectic mix of rock, blues, and soul to the masses. Their infectious rhythms and soothing vocals sets this band apart.

Redefining the Disfranchised: The Political Art of Nina Allender As we continue to celebrate the 88th Anniversary of Women's Right to Vote, there's a prime opportunity to view influential art from the era. Nina Evans Allender drew political cartoons for The Suffragist from 1914 into the 1920s, transforming stereotypical views of who a suffragist was. Over the years, Allender contributed more than 250 political cartoons to the movement, a number of which are on display at the Women's Museum at Fair Park. More info
