Ain’t it funny how (media) time slips away…

Square Pegs

You know you're a media geek when you measure time based on your media consumption. But a couple of recent releases gave me a check on how quickly the last few long years have passed.

The Old 97's just released their first solo disc since 2004's Drag it Up. Drag came out during the week I took off from my old job to write the first draft of the Pegasus News business plan.

I listened to "The New Kid" on repeat the whole way driving to my first angel investor pitch. I'm not sure if I was envisioning myself as the narrator or the subject of the song or both.

The last true Elvis Costello studio disc before the new Momofuku was released about two months later.

I wrote the blog post that I've always considered the touchstone of our neighborhood news philosophy the same day I bought my copy of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. That was still five months before PegNews became a full-time gig. YouTube did not yet exist. (The new GTA game just came out a couple weeks ago.)

So it looks to me like we've made it through one "media cycle" in terms of my consumption thereof. Wow. That seems like both a blink and an eternity.

Dallas Symphony Orchestra - Blue Planet Live The DSO dwarfed by images of towering whale flukes and (I'm guessing at some point) penguins! This might be just what the doctor ordered as an alternative to the numerous fireworks shows going on (a full night early) around the area. Show those July 3rd cheaters what for by attending this event instead! More info
