PPT - Rowdy, Proud, & Pissed Off

Soundcheck

Later today, we have a full feature interview with the guys from PPT to talk about everything except their new album Tres Monos In Love.

But we just got a big scoop here at TexasGigs, and we wanted to get it out to everyone fast.

We all remember a few months back when PPT won a contest to make their song "Rowdy, Loud, & Proud" the official playoff theme song for the Mavs last season. Well, PPT was not the only band that benefitted from that concert. Electro-hip-hop-crow-holders Lazer also got tons of publicity, and even became regulars on Dallas' top sports radio station 1310 The Ticket. Lazer used that relationship with The Ticket to have Hammel call in to the Ben & Skin when PPT was being interviewed and trash Pikahsso, Picnic, and Tahiti's Mavs song.

Based on recent developments, it looks as though PPT was not happy at all with being blindsided by Lazer. I guess it is something they are still upset about because we just got word that PPT sent a diss song to Lazer over the weekend.

Lazer's man servant has sent us an mp3 copy of the song.

The story is still developing, and we hope to have comments from Lazer later in the week.

To PPT and Lazer -

We are all part of the cultural fabric of the DFW area. Music is a tough business, and there is quite enough negativity from external sources to discourage even the most determined artist. What purpose is served by tearing each other down aside from massaging your egos? If TexasGigs, who hosted and took part in judging in the Mavs contest, has taught you nothing else, it should at least have given you a sense of communal pride in the work we are all a part of.

The best musical communities in history have come out of an atmosphere and culture of collaboration and partnership. Dissention and petty rivalry will at best be a distraction and could possibly be a serious detriment to the artistic fabric of your entire community.

But here's the point I want to stress the most: ultimately, the music is not about you. It starts with you; you create it, you express through it, you get satisfaction and fulfillment out of performing it. But as soon as you expose the public to it, you've changed its state forever. It is now part of and subject to the collective consciousness. It will be interpreted (and misinterpreted), and it finds as much of a home in the minds and hearts of those who have consumed it as under the fingers and vocal cords of its creators. Once that happens, the very same group of rhythms and sounds become more than they could on their own.

The fact that you both release and perform music means you recognize this truth and desire to be a part of that "greater something". This is incongruous with your recent behavior. By attacking each other, you're attempting to rip a hole in the tapestry in which you both have ownership and have both worked to create. It may make for some great news coverage, but then again, so did a Las Vegas casino owner putting his elbow throw a Picasso.

So guys, cool it down, make up, and put your heads together to see what you can accomplish. I bet PPT and Lazer could both benefit from the partnership.

Seems to me like it's nothing more than creative PR. A way to keep your name in the news. Bands have been doing this forever - there's nothing wrong with it...until Pac and Bigge get shot.

Somehow, I don't see this ending up that way.

Ok now that the link's up and I've been able to listen to the Ticket segment, maybe it is all in good fun possibly just a PR stunt like you said. If so, that's cool. I still stand behind my statements, though. :)
