Dallas Symphony Orchestra - Blue Planet Live The DSO dwarfed by images of towering whale flukes and (I'm guessing at some point) penguins! This might be just what the doctor ordered as an alternative to the numerous fireworks shows going on (a full night early) around the area. Show those July 3rd cheaters what for by attending this event instead! More info

Man! I'd love to see Tom Waits live, but two $86 tickets is rich.
I'll have to make that decision here pretty quick.
I think Tom is one of the REAL genius lyric and musical minds of our age.

And don't think for a second that you can buy tix from scalpers. They've got this new ticketless system that makes it impossible:

Given past experiences with the thorough (read slow) security at the Palladium, I'd go early, if I could stomach shelling out $100 a ticket for a GA show. (Don't forget those service fees!)

Show started at 8:35 and the sold-out Palladium is hotter than blazes, figuratively and literally. Two songs in, Waits is keeping the devil down in the hole (his song made famous when the Blind Boys of Alabama covered it as theme of HBO's "The Wire."

Waits picked up a guitar the first time for "Mule Variations," then donned a mirrored bowler, reflecting light around the room - discoball style - before finally sitting at the piano for "Lucky Day."

Peak experience: Waits as maestro conducting the audience as choir for the chorus of "Innocent When You Dream" followed by "16 shells from a thirty-ought six."

After 100 minutes, the $100 show officially ended with "Misery," but encores included "9th & Hennepin" and the grand finale "Time."
