Karnazes has nothing on the heroism of Sam Thompson, who set a record Karnazes couldn't beat by running more marathons in less time. Thompson also did so selflessly for the benefit of Hurricane Katrina victims rather than box office receipts.

I have mixed feelings on Dean. I just completed a marathon and am a long time runner so I fully appreciate the difficulty completing one, much less 50. However, his efforts did seems a bit gratuitous at times and the whole point of running is to inspire yourself and others to run and also to do so for charitable reasons. All Dean made people realize is that he is a freak.
