Dwaine Caraway

On Thursday, November 9th at the South Dallas Cafe, Dwaine Caraway officially announced his candidacy for 2007 Dallas City Council Place 4. Dwaine is the only announced candidate for Council Place 4, which is currently held by Maxine Thornton-Reese, who is leaving due to term limits. Campaign consultant Michael Davis sent out additional information in a press release:

Dwaine has been active in community issues for over 30 years. "From fighting drugs to bringing needed parks and facilities to helping all citizens on a daily basis, I will continue to fight on the behalf of the citizens of this District. Many of you know that I’ve always been available to help you get things done in the neighborhood, even when there is no election occurring. Now it is time to take that fight to City Hall."

Dwaine has been called a go-to person on community issues. Most recently he has helped close crime-plagued hot sheet motels in South Dallas and Oak Cliff, and spoke in support of DART employees getting better support and employee benefits.

Dwaine has a distinct plan that will greatly benefit the residents of District 4 and the City of Dallas. This plan is outlined in a newsletter which was available to attendees and is also on Dwaine’s website.

"The blight, crime, and lack of safety in our area is stifling the hope of our citizens. It's time to unite for safer, better looking neighborhoods and more opportunity." Dwaine is the clear choice for citizens in District 4 that want more opportunity and a higher quality of life in their neighborhoods.

“We have many issues to address. I talk with many residents who are prisoners in their own homes. They are scared of drug dealers, prostitutes, gangs, and violence. It shouldn’t be this way. Every day it seems like someone is the victim of violent crime in this area.

Someone has to be willing to take a stand.”

Born and raised in Dallas, Dwaine attended Texas Southern University and is a graduate of Roosevelt High School. Dwaine is the former Vice Chair of the Dallas Park and Recreation Board.

I'm telling you, Dwaine is the truth. The establishment has been successful in keeping him from winning previous races, but he will breakthrough this time.

Thanks, Mike. I've got a note and a question here:

First, to other readers: We're launching our full Pegasus News product after Thanksgiving, and we're experimenting with our editorial workflow. Hence, some of you may trip into non-musical territory like this story. Just a heads-up. All still a work in progress.

And Mike: Curious to hear how the establishment has kept Dwaine out, and who you mean by the establishment in that sentence.

Finally, to all City Council candidates (in all local municipalities): You've got an open invitation here to write unedited pieces about the issues facing your city and district. You also have an open invitation to come visit us for a recorded interview for our users. And the cool thing is that we can target that info to the folks who live and vote in your district, so it doesn't get lost in the noise.

Good stuff a'comin'...

Mike O - To answer your question...

Such a long list, let me count the ways..

Establishment that doesn't want Dwaine there, for fear he'll tell the truth. Maxine Reese, Leo Chaney, John Wiley Price, Laura Miller, the Dallas Morning News.

  1. The time Laura Miller hired a private detective and when he ran against Ed Oakley in 2001. She claimed he was using mail-in fraud. It was proven he never submitted fraudulent votes and in typical LM fashion she never retracted.

  2. Flat out voter fraud. Mail-in ballots, voting dead people, you name it.

  3. Leo Chaney had the district lines drew in a way that District 7 ended 3 blocks from Dwaine's house. He knew he had no shot against Dwaine and drew a lot of Dwaine's support into his own District.

  4. Maxine Reese helped to gerrymander the lines along with Chaney. Look at the bastardized District 4 lines. Instead of having the guts to give Pleasant Grove its own District she chose to protect her seat. She lives at the far northern corner of the district which is no coincidence. http://www.dallascityhall.com/governm...

  5. I sent the Dallas Morning News the same press release I sent you. D Mag printed it, as did Dallas Blog. The DMN ignored it but printed that bulls%^t Ed Oakley announcement. I can tell you right now Oakley will get the Mayoral endorsement because he's the Council's biggest suck-up when it comes to the Trinity River Project and this bulls$%t tollway that nobody wants. They deserve each other.

Btw, Dwaine's got a real plan which can be seen on his newsletter at http://Dwainecaraway.com
