Swift Tracks: 1000 Miles From Home and The Wishlist

It’s a great thing to see local artists living their dream and actually making it. 1000 Miles From Home is doing just that.

Since they released their album Collision late last year, tracks from it has been played on over ten radio stations including the Edge in Dallas. It has had countless reviews from many different publications, including our own.

They have toured around the world, and all over the States.

“When You Go” demanded my attention the second I heard it. It’s much more poppy than the other tracks, but I don’t mind it.

The guitar has its own thing going on in the background during the verses, which helps keep you from becoming ADD and drifting off. There’s also a break between choruses towards the end where the guitarist Jeff Widman plays a fantastic solo showing his ability.

The main vocalist Zac Carrington has a strong voice that could possibly recover a bad track if need be. At some points he reminded me of the lead singer from Miser.

One of the best lines from the song is when he says “So I won’t move too fast or talk to you too slow.”

1000 Miles came together by coincidence. They all moved to Dallas from different areas and met because of their passion for music. The band describes themselves as geeks just wanting to play music.

Their next show will be at the Taste of Dallas on July 11 at noon, right when the TX heat is at its best.

The Wishlist is preaching a very different message. Their sound blends Something Corporate’s heartfelt lyrics and passion with Ben Kweller’s piano skills.

The band is made up of four guys who reside in Denton. Although they each seem very gifted on their own, the main guy, Kevin Layne, could be a one-man band.

As soon as you turn on “This is Love” you can hear the heartache in his voice. The song tells how he is heartbroken over a girl and he wonders if she feels the same. The line that stopped me was “If I changed who I was would my ashes agree, when they blow through the breeze?” His lyrics are very intellectual, which bring a much-needed variety to the scene.

Many tracks on The Wishlist's EP have a mellow flavor, bordering on the downer side. They’re the type of songs you want to listen to alone in your room.

TW promises to be a great band to see live. They will be playing at Andy’s in Denton on July 19.
