Project Fruit Bowl supports coming out campaign

In fashion, one day you’re in, the next day you’re in the gutter. And this year the competition, as well as the couture, will be fiercer than Tim Gunn in a sequined Speedo running from a whip-wielding Nina Garcia.

Get ready for Project Fruit Bowl.

This annual bowling fundraiser (now in its 17th year) is hosted by the Human Rights Campaign Coming Out Project DFW and is always the hottest ticket in town. With the Project Runway-inspired high-fashion theme, it’s like getting an afternoon of bowling and a runway show all rolled into one (Heidi Klum’s wildest fantasy come true).

While it’s not required, teams are encouraged to create the most fabulous outfits possible, taking inspiration from everyone’s favorite fashion accessory: bowling shoes. (And yes, we’ve checked Google. The bowler doesn’t wear Prada.) The costumes have always been one of the highlights of Fruit Bowls past and this year’s challenge is certainly going to bring out the creative “sporty” side of each team.

And when not parading around with the rest of the gutterati, er, glitterati, you’ll be feeding your inner athlete with frame after frame of intense alley action. All while supporting the Coming Out Workshop and “Be Who You Are” special section to The Dallas Morning News as part of National Coming Out Day.

Prizes will be awarded to the best bowler, the worst bowler and the team with the best costumes. So get your friends together and form the team to beat. It’s not too late.

Actually bowling skill not required.
