The walls of Elm Street don over a dozen new murals after the Re*Cov*Er muralist competition awards ceremony Saturday. Various local artists created murals paying tribute to local musicians. The competition was held to bring some of the art and music together and back to Deep Ellum. The murals were examined by a panel of judges Saturday evening. Brian Crawford took third place for his portrayal of Leadbelly, Janet Antich took home second for her mural of John Lee Hooker and Ronnie Bates of Reel FX won first place for his mural of a Deep Ellum street corner painted in the style of a 1920's cartoon.
