— The State of Texas has grant funds available through the State Criminal Justice Planning 421 Fund grant for local governments to fund specific criminal justice projects. The Farmers Branch Police Department is seeking $50,000 in funds for a mobile storefront command trailer to be used to aid the police department’s ability to respond to and direct the activities at an extended event.

“Our everyday use for the trailer would be kind of like a mobile store front, in that we would take it to shopping centers or any place in the community where there’s a need for police protection,” said Farmers Branch Police Chief Sid Fuller.

These funds do not have to be matched by the City of Farmers Branch. City council approved the request at the March 18 council meeting and according to Farmers Branch City Manager Gary Greer, the city will probably hear back from the State of Texas near the end of the year.
