DALLAS The Dallas Mavericks proved that they could mercilessly pound a lesser team even without Dirk Nowitzki in the lineup Tuesday night, as the rest of the Mavericks starters stepped up in a big 103-90 win over the Clippers at the AAC. Despite the Clippers' poor record (for the past three decades or so), the win was an important one for the Mavs, as they lost their leading scorer and rebounder to a leg injury in the previous game, and had lost three games in a row.

The Mavs were able to easily contain the majestic Clippers
Fortunately, the Mavericks have had little problem taking care of the lesser teams in the NBA this season, and Tuesday was no different. Josh Howard filled in Dirk's role of leading scorer, putting up 32 points and 7 rebounds, including shooting a Nowitzki-like 15-for-15 from the free throw stripe.
Jerry Stackhouse added 20 points, while perhaps the most dominant center in the game, Eric Dampier, broke out of his recent slump to put up 19 points and 17 rebounds. Newcomer Jason Kidd was present but not dominant, with 10 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists but a whopping 7 turnovers.
The win improves the Mavericks to 45-26, four games from the top spot in the division and just two games above the 9th-seeded Denver Nuggets.

In this city of fairweather fans, they'll blame avery for this downturn, when they should be going after Cuban and Friends for bringing back Jason Kidd.
